The table is intentionally mixed.

Writers may sit beside artists, chefs, musicians, makers, and entrepreneurs. Past conversations have asked how to protect creative time, whether art should support itself, and what a sustainable creative life actually costs.

Writers in conversation around a table at an ATX Writing Club gathering

Four or five hours gets past the small talk.

The table mixes writers with other creative people—artists, chefs, musicians, makers, and entrepreneurs—so the conversation is not limited to publishing. Past themes have included creative discipline, artistic ambition, finding time to make things, and whether art should support itself financially.

With only 10–16 people, everyone has time to speak, ask a follow-up question, and leave knowing more than a name and job title.
