ATXWriting Club

Membership Experience Lead

Austin, Texas, United States · Full-time · In person

About this job

About the role

ATX Writing Club is seeking a Membership Experience Lead to care for the full journey of joining and belonging. From a first question about the waitlist to a member’s next season, you will make the experience clear, personal, and reliably human. You will help people understand what membership includes and make sure the reality of the club lives up to that promise.

Our membership happens in person across Austin. This is a full-time, Austin-based role with a meaningful presence at writing rooms and member events, including some evenings and Saturdays. You will connect day-to-day member support with the people planning the gatherings, so the details and the community stay in conversation.

About you

You remember names, notice patterns, and take responsibility for the thing that fell between teams. You can explain a practical policy plainly, make someone feel heard without overpromising, and turn recurring questions into a better process.

You appreciate the particular courage it takes to show up with unfinished work. You want members to feel welcomed, informed, and connected to other writers—not processed through a system. You are also comfortable with the operational discipline that makes that kind of care sustainable.

What you'll do

  • Guide prospective members through the seasonal waitlist and invitation process with accurate, timely communication.
  • Welcome new members, answer questions, and help them find the right writing rooms, feedback groups, and events.
  • Be present at regular Austin gatherings and build real relationships with members and facilitators.
  • Own the quality of member messages, help materials, and handoffs across the season.
  • Track recurring requests and points of friction, then work with the team to improve the experience.
  • Coordinate thoughtful renewals, cancellations, and changes without making members chase an answer.
  • Share what you learn from members with the people designing our events and editorial work.
  • Handle private member information carefully and keep records useful, accurate, and limited to what the work requires.

What we're looking for

  • Experience leading membership, community, customer experience, hospitality, or a comparable people-centered function.
  • Clear, empathetic writing and the ability to manage many conversations without losing the individual person.
  • Strong organization, sound judgment, and comfort improving a process while continuing to run it.
  • Confidence addressing a difficult question directly and following through on a resolution.
  • Availability for in-person Austin work, including some evenings and Saturdays.
  • An interest in books, writing, or the creative communities that make a city feel like home.

Working with ATX Writing Club

You will not have to wonder whether your work matters. You will see writers return week after week, make friends, ask for feedback, and finish pieces they once thought would stay in a folder. Because we gather in person, you can learn what members need by being there with them, not by reading a dashboard alone.

We are building a durable home for writers in Austin, with room for careful systems and genuinely local relationships. In a small team, your observations will shape how the club welcomes people and how it grows. We value honest communication, thoughtful boundaries, and the satisfaction of doing good work for a community you know.

You do not need to match every line above. If your experience would help make this an even better place for Austin writers, we would like to hear from you.
