ATXWriting Club

Editorial & Newsletter Producer

Austin, Texas, United States · Contract · In person

About this job

About the role

We are looking for an Editorial & Newsletter Producer to give ATX Writing Club a clear, generous editorial voice between gatherings. You will turn conversations, member work, reading recommendations, and upcoming events into useful newsletters and stories that make people want to show up in person.

This Austin-based contract role works closely with our programming and community team. You will spend time at events, listening to writers and meeting the local people whose ideas deserve a wider audience, then shape that material into concise, considered work. The best output will feel like an extension of the room rather than a marketing blast.

About you

You are an attentive editor and an assured writer. You know how to find the particular detail in a conversation that makes a story worth reading, and you can bring structure to a busy calendar without flattening its personality.

You care about Austin as a living literary community, not just a backdrop. You are comfortable interviewing a guest, working with a member on a short contribution, editing your own copy, and getting a dependable issue out on time.

What you'll do

  • Plan and produce a consistent editorial newsletter that connects members to upcoming gatherings and to one another.
  • Report from writing sessions, readings, workshops, and conversations to capture what matters after the event ends.
  • Interview local authors, instructors, booksellers, and members with curiosity and respect.
  • Commission, edit, and fact-check short contributions while preserving each writer’s own voice.
  • Write clear event descriptions, subject lines, and practical member updates that make the next step obvious.
  • Maintain an editorial calendar and coordinate deadlines with programming and membership colleagues.
  • Review reader response and member feedback to improve the usefulness and rhythm of the publication.

What we're looking for

  • A portfolio of newsletters, reported pieces, interviews, editorial features, or comparable published work.
  • Excellent editing, proofreading, interviewing, and deadline-management skills.
  • Good judgment about consent, attribution, accuracy, and the difference between a private room and a public story.
  • Ability to build a repeatable editorial process without making every issue feel formulaic.
  • Willingness to attend in-person Austin events and build relationships with the local writing community.
  • Experience with email publishing tools is helpful; an ear for voice and a record of finishing are more important.

Working with ATX Writing Club

At ATX Writing Club, your source material is a real community. You can meet the people behind the sentences, visit the bookstores and venues that host us, and make thoughtful editorial work that helps Austin writers discover one another. The writing has a purpose beyond clicks: it brings people back to the table.

Our team is small enough for your taste and ideas to matter. We value careful work, direct collaboration, and a publication that sounds like people who actually read and write. You will have the chance to build a recognizable editorial rhythm while staying close to the local scene that inspires it.

You do not need to match every line above. If your experience would help make this an even better place for Austin writers, we would like to hear from you.
